This is my latest Mixed Media painting titled "Inner Peace". Sometimes I feel I achieve inner peace and recenter myself when painting even if only temporary.
Painting the backgrounds are so much fun, so messy and haphazard. They always turn out the way I want even if I didn't know what I wanted at the time. I drew the Birch trees, for this painting, on a separate sheet of paper and cut them out to add to the background before I added anything else. I really like building layers upon layers to give depth and interest. I build layers of color with acrylic, watercolor, pens, pencil, marker, stamp anything really. If I use watercolor in the background I do seal it with a matte sealant otherwise the watercolor will re-hydrate and smear. After getting the watercolor just right and then it smears is a inner peace breaker. But, then I just wash it off and start over and soon I forget about how it looked the first time. I always like it better after something like that happens anyway.
"Other people may not like what I paint,
I may not like what I paint,
it doesn't have to be perfect.
All that matters is that I paint."
