The only Crocodile Stitch resource you will ever need

I was very frustrated when searching the internet for a free pattern to learn the Crocodile Stitch. All I could find were youtube video's that are very confusing in demonstrating how they crochet this stitch. I had to stop and start the videos over and over again to get the basic idea of the stitch. It was most confusing the way they were flipping the crochet around it was so hard to fallow along. It was even more frustrating when it came to watching them start the second row of the Crocodile stitch. However after a lot a trial and error and even more hair pulling I finally figured out how to crochet the Crocodile stitch on my own. After all the frustration I went through I thought I would make a tutorial for other crocheters who want to learn this stitch and save them the agony and frustration I went through to figuring the Crocodile stitch.

Thank you so much for all your support and all your lovely comments.

Keep smiling and Keep Crocheting!

Love and Hugs to all!

I have worked this stitch from a Youtube video I watched last year. That video was difficult to follow and after nearly 35 years of crocheting I had to play with it and watch the video over again. Your instructions with pix at each step make this so much easier to follow! Thank you! I've written this down, typed it in to Word so I can't lose it again.

After struggling with this stitch last year with a video I saw on YouTube, your tutorial is so much easier! After 35+ years of crocheting I never thought I would need step-by-step pix to get me through a pattern, but they really help. Thanks.!

Thank you so much. I have been wanting to try this, but could not find directions that weren't confusing. Many blessings to you for sharing this.

So much easier...I was wondering if might be able to explain the best way to increase and decrease? I wanted to make a newborn mermaid tail photo prop! Thanks!

I have been so intimidated to even TRY this stitch, no tutorial or pattern was clear enough for my advanced beginner level skills, until now. You did a very good job with this tutorial! I actually know what a shell is. And crocheting around a post (ladder)? I do it all the time when making up flower patterns! So, intimidation quelled! I am going to be able to learn this stitch now, finally! Thank you so much!
